Wolf Moon

The first full moon of 2022 is the Wolf Moon, which was on Monday 17th January 2022.

This full moon was so named because villagers used to hear packs of wolves howling in hunger around this time of the year. It’s also known as the Old Moon, Ice Moon and Snow Moon, although the latter is usually associated with February’s full moon.

I took these images on the morning of the 18th at around 8:15am. They look stunning especially with the Minster in the background.

What a sunrise! Part II

*EDIT*

I’ve just upload a video of the sunrise from Wednesday.

What a sunrise this morning! It was freezing cold with ice and fog but the sky was lit up by the most colourful sunrise! It looked like the sky was on fire! There was even a rainbow at the bottom of the hill.

What a mild day!

Such a beautiful end to what started as a very wet morning. It is really mild here, with temperatures set to reach 16 by Friday. That’s crazy!

The Minster looking glorious in the bit of late afternoon sun.
There’s a squirrel running around in those trees.

Pink Sunrise
&
Sharp Frost

A most beautiful sunrise this morning. The whole sky was lit up pink!

A sharp frost had also made wonderful ice patterns on the roof of my car and the shed windows..

Also, the saying
Red sky at night, shepherds’ delight.
Red sky in the morning, shepherds’ warning
is quite relevant for today as we have another storm heading our way. This time it’s storm Barra. As long as it doesn’t do any more damage to my shed (the last storm blew my shed door off!)

Lake District Memories IV

“The Earth is Art, The Photographer is only a Witness ”
Yann Arthus-Bertrand

It’s Sunday so it must be visit the Lake District day!

Today I’ve included a video of how powerful (and noisy) Aira Force Waterfall is and a video of the sunset over Ullswater & Glenriding a few years ago.

An 18th-century pleasure ground, Aira Force was the backdrop for William Wordsworth’s poem ‘Somnambulist’ – a Gothic tale of love and tragedy. There are so many woodland trails to discover in this landscape of contrasts. Quiet glades give way to dramatic waterfalls, with Aira Beck thundering down a 65-foot drop past ferns and rocks.

The Somnambulist

William Wordsworth

List, ye who pass by Lyulph’s Tower
At eve; how softly then
Doth Aira-force, that torrent hoarse,
Speak from the woody glen!
Fit music for a solemn vale!
And holier seems the ground
To him who catches on the gale
The spirit of a mournful tale,
Embodied in the sound…

Sound on!

Aira Force is a showcase for the power and beauty of nature; it’s a place to escape the ordinary.

Lake District Memories III

“The Earth is Art, The Photographer is only a Witness ”
Yann Arthus-Bertrand

It’s Sunday so it must be visit the Lake District day! So missing the Lake District, Cumbria. It is over a year since I last went and I’m feeling the pull to go more than ever, especially that my favourite time of the year is almost here. For now, I will have to be content with memories from yesteryear, I hope you like them. This week it’s the turn of fabulous sunrises and sunsets. How beautiful are these?

“There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them.”
